Re: Willits City Council votes 4-1 for impeachment hearings for Bush/Cheney

Brad,
Do you mean am I going to be committed? Probably. I learned at the Democrats for America candidates training that the first requirement for running for office is to accept that you're a little nuts to do it.

YES, let's announce this at the Beach Impeach. I AM DEFINITELY COMMITTED to organizing a statewide Impeachment Coalition that will, among other projects, round-up impeachment candidates for all California Congressional Districts. There are already a number of candidates, but I believe only a few are running in the June primary. You, me, Shirley Golub, and we'll have to find out who else.
Since the deadline for filing as a write-in is May 20, there's plenty of time to ask people to step up.
Cynthia

GREAT idea, Cynthia -- let's shoot for having one impeachment-specific candidate in each of California's 53 congressional districts. If someone can challenge Barbara Lee -- and I think I heard that some one is now doing that...

;-)

-- well, who can NOT be challenged?

Are you committed enough to this that we can announce it to the media tomorrow?

And if we get people in all 53 districts -- or if we just head in that direction -- it's a good possibility that we can crack that mainstream media outlet that's strangled us and kept the status quo locked in.

See you in the morning at Beach Impeach 5!

Brad Newsham

Candidate for US Representative, California District 9 (Barbara Lee's district)

Thank you for passing?along?this great news about Willits going for impeachment Rae.?

At last night's Town Hall on Peace & Impeachment WITH DAVID SWANSON!?I decided to go ahead with organizing a?California Impeachment Coalition.?I'm developing a mailing list, possibly a meet-up, for actions and announcements. There will be a chat area or separate list for discussion. This group will be temporary since we're going to see Cheney resign in the next couple of months and hopefully Bush investigations will start concurrently or shortly after Cheney's. So if you as an impeachment leader, LAIC, SVIC, and other groups want to be included in the Coalition, let's talk.?I've have over a hundred email addresses from last night's event. ?Let's move fast to get this going.?With this Coalition we'll have strength in numbers, provide support for each other, discuss and focus on promising strategies, and otherwise network to become more powerful as a statewide force. Can you imagine having several thousand Coalition members to apply pressure where needed?

I've made up my mind to run as a write-in candidate in the June primary against Zoe Lofgren, CA-16, to push her to start impeachment hearings. She's on the Judiciary Committee so she's key. I missed getting on the ballot for June as a Democratic challenger by two valid signatures.
?
Priscilla, how's Ashland coming?

Hooray for a local victory! ?After months of presentations to the City Council and private talks with each its members, last night Mayor Holly Madrigal presented a Resolution calling for Willits City Council to vote to direct Congress to hold impeachment hearings on Bush and Cheney. ?The council chamber was packed, and many people spoke eloquently on this administration's abuse of powers, violations of civil liberties, illegal invasion of Iraq, admitted use of torture, obstructing needed environmental measures, and lying to the American people about the run up to the war. ?We presented the council with over 300 signatures on petitions, and 300 more names were on county-distributed petitions submitted by Robin Warren. ?Greg Kanne, Holly Madrigal, Karen Oslund, and Larry Stranske voted for, Tami Jorgenson against. ?Tami stated that she had received hate mail related to this issue, and feels her role as council member is limited to ?local issues and ?does not call for her comments on broader issues. ?
????Thank you to everyone who signed and circulated petitions, who helped out this historic moment for Willits. ?Since Linda Williams, reporter from Willits News, was not present, I ask that all who were there write letters and statements to the paper. ?We have also heard from Mike Thompson's office that he has finally taken the step towards signing on publicly for an impeachment hearing, this week sending John Conyers of the House Judiciary Committee a letter stating his position. ?Let's call Thompson's office and thank him. ?Andale-onwards. ?In peace, Melinda Clarke

HOORAY!
One correction, though: Councilwoman Tami Jorgensen said she'd received hate mail 5 years ago when she voted against the resolution opposing the attack on Iraq, NOT on this issue. ?I was especially gratified that we won Larry Stranske's support: he's a conservative Republican who hates what Bush is doing, and usually is opposed to any taking "non-local" actions.
Keeping on... ?Love, Madge
P.S. Willits is a town of about 5,000 in Mendocino County, northern CA. ?Mike Thompson is our Congressman, who up til recently was saying impeachment should be "off the table".
